Out + about: surf life saving season launch

05 October 2008

I joined my state colleague, Michael Daley, at the Maroubra Surf Life Saving Club's season launch.

Michael and I, as Honorary Vice Patrons, were pleased to attend the official start of the season and acknowledge the work of this fantastic organisation.

I was also delighted to announce a Rudd Government grants program which will make available funds up to $10,000 for the installation of water saving and efficiency devices at surf life saving clubs. »read media release

A week later, Michael and I met up again for the season launch and Oktoberfest at South Maroubra.

This year's Oktoberfest was the 10th and has become the club's main fundraiser.

And well done to Michael who participated in the annual Fun Run.

Pete's tips

Use lights efficiently

» Rooms are often excessively lit. Make sure you are not using a higher wattage bulb than is necessary.
» Turn off unnecessary lights, including fluorescent lamps especially if leaving a room for more than ten minutes.
» Clean light fittings regularly to allow more light to pass through.
» Decorating with light coloured finishes and furnishings can allow lighting levels to be reduced.
